Waste heat recovery is the process of reclaiming thermal energy that would otherwise be lost to the atmosphere in exhaust air. This recovered energy can be reused for building heating, process heating, or fluid heating at your facility, reducing energy costs and lowering your carbon footprint. LINK TO OUR SYSTEM
Unlike traditional systems that clog quickly in dirty or humid exhaust environments, the ThermStar System™ is purpose-built to reclaim heat in polluted, particle laden and high humidity airstreams. Exhaust environments where other systems can’t successfully operate due to rapid clogging. The patented Lepido™ heat recovery technology is engineered and patented for polluted, particulate-laden, and/or high humidity airstreams, making it ideal for industrial and commercial settings. No. The Lepido™ technology in the heat recovery unit at this system’s heart has been used successfully in Europe since 2015, earning international awards for innovation and sustainability. It has a long and growing list of industrial, commercial and restaurant clients. The ThermStar System™ adapts this proven technology for the North American market, including integration with our proprietary predictive analytics platform, ThermStar™ Power Intelligence. At the center of the ThermStar System™ is the Lepido™ heat recovery unit, a high-efficiency heat exchanger designed for harsh exhaust environments that contain particulates, are particle laden and/or contain high humidity. It transfers thermal energy from polluted exhaust air into a fluid circuit that delivers the heat to where its needed. LINK TO OUR SYSTEM
ThermStar System™ is a complete, engineered system using rugged components for the rigors of daily usage over a 10+ year life span. It includes the Lepido™ heat recovery unit, HeatCore™ usage side coil, a circulation pump for closed loop heat transfer, and the ThermStar™ Power Intelligence monitoring platform all delivered as a unified, install-ready package. ThermStar™ Power Intelligence, powered by Engenuity’s eViewIoT software platform, provides real-time system monitoring, predictive maintenance alerts and AI-driven diagnostics. It quantifies recovered energy, monitors system performance, and forecasts maintenance needs. LINK TO OUR SYSTEM
The name ThermStar™ combines two key ideas: “Therm,” representing thermal energy savings and heat recovery, and “Star,” symbolizing our commitment to excellence, innovation, and delivering measurable results for our customers. It reflects both our mission to reclaim lost energy and our role as a trusted leader in waste heat recovery. The ThermStar System™ logo visually reinforces this mission with three core elements:
Together, the name and icon illustrate our purpose: to transform particle laden wasted heat into valuable, sustainable energy solutions for industrial and commercial environments. LINK TO LOGO AREA
The ThermStar System™ is ideal for industrial and commercial settings with clean or polluted / particle laden exhaust, that can also have high levels of humidity including:
The ThermStar System™ is built for 10+ years of service, with components designed to endure daily thermal cycling and exposure to harsh exhaust conditions. It handles exhaust temperatures up to 410°F and uses glycol or high-temperature transfer fluids that are fit for purpose. LINK TO OUR SYSTEM
Yes. Most clients achieve payback in under 3 years, with incentives improving ROI further. Our team performs a waste heat savings simulation analysis to estimate your ROI based on exhaust temperature, airflow rates, hours of operation, and application criteria. Simulation results, validated on real world projects since 2018, have a 97% accuracy rate in projecting actual savings. LINK TO CASE STUDIES
On average, ThermStar System™ installations reduce energy consumption by over 50%. In a recent industrial laundry case study at CWS Workwear, their natural gas bill was slashed by 62%. LINK TO CASE STUDIES
The ThermStar System™ is a fully integrated solution that is often rooftop-mounted and connects to the exhaust air duct. Installations inside in the building are also available. Within the ThermStar System™, the Lepido™ heat recovery unit is integrated into your exhaust duct, and the recovered heat is transferred via insulated piping to the HeatCore™ unit. The reclaimed heat energy can then be used to preheat air or liquids within process equipment, boilers or HVAC systems. LINK TO OUR SYSTEM

Minimal maintenance is needed. Thanks to its clogging resistant design, the cleaning of the Lepido™ heat recovery unit typically aligns with your facility’s standard cleaning schedule. Predictive alerts via ThermStar Power Intelligence™ notify you when cleaning is required. Regular checks of the system, during normal maintenance operations, are also recommended.
Yes. The ThermStar System™ is designed for retrofit applications and can be integrated with most existing HVAC and process heating systems with minimal modifications. LINK TO OUR SYSTEM
Yes, the system exceeds ASHRAE 90.1 efficiency standards. As part of our comprehensive service to customers, we assist customers in identifying and applying for available programs.
No, there is no risk of contaminants from the exhaust being reintroduced into the preheated air or fluid that is recovered. Exhaust air transfers its heat energy to a liquid via the Lepido™ unit, then the exhaust exits the system. There is no mixing of exhaust air with the preheated supply air or fluid.
Originally developed and deployed in Europe, the Lepido™ heat recovery technology has been successfully operating since 2015.
